The original caliper is reused with an adapter that moves it further away from the fork leg to accommodate the larger brake rotor.
The larger rotor diameter improves braking performance considerably. The stock brake rotor is simply too small, especially considering the 21" front wheel used on these models. As a result these models are known for having sub-par front brake performance.
This is a bolt on kit complete kit. The original metal brake line which exits the caliper and attaches at the brake hose can be reshaped to be used with this kit, but it can still be a stretch to get it to fit.
