TRACTIVE ESA2 PLUG & PLAY REAR SHOCK / Requires the use of the OEM Electronic Preload Adjuster // R1200RS 2015-On

**TracTive Plug & Play ESA shocks are specially designed for the original BMW ESA equipment. This kit replaces only the Shock, requiring the re-use of the OEM ESA2 Celasto/Coil Dual Spring System for maximum load range and Electronic Preload Adjuster, while retaining the original integration into the BMW ESA system**

The engineers at TracTive invented ESA for BMW back in 2005, so you can count on their system functionality. They have stronger and higher quality built ESA conversions.

TracTive ESA conversion benefits include:

  • Stainless steel reducer bushings (where the bolts pass through the mounting eyelets). Other companies use aluminum which is a softer material, and can contract or deform shape over time

  • The same reinforced seal head as used in the Touratech Adventure bike shocks (TracTive manufactures shocks for Touratech). This seal head is very robust, provides long life, and rarely develops leaks

  • 16mm induction hardened, chro-moly shafts. 16mm shafts are stronger and flow more oil through the pistons compared to smaller shaft diameters used on different brands

  • Many front shocks have 46mm bodies with the above mentioned 16mm shafts (where space allows). This allows for better cooling compared to the smaller 36mm bodied shocks used by some of the competition

  • TracTive shocks come with their own rebound motors. This means that (in most cases) the front shocks are a complete, ready to bolt in application. For the rear, only the preload motor needs to be harvested, so only the rear stock shock would need to be sent in to us to complete the conversion

  • Rear shocks feature a "PDS" valve - Position dependent Damping System - Utilizing a secondary piston, this system creates a "pillow" effect designed to progressively increase damping to reduce harsh bottom outs. This feature is normally found only in the top of the line "Extreme" Touratech shocks

  • On most applications, there is the option to replace a failed OEM preload motor with a TracTive Electronic preload motor or TracTive Hydraulic preload motor. This creates an option for those with failing OEM motors to retain all adjusting features on their ESA shocks

Smoothed out the jolt and jitters

I ride a 2021 R1250RS and my suspension setting is always on Dynamic / Auto. The stock shock sent jolts up the spine to the point that on every overpass transition or major bumps on roads I would have to put weight on my pegs to reduce the agony shooting up to my lower back from the harsh feel of the stock shock. All that is FIXED. I did a fast round trip trip to SF from the South Bay (90 miles) and not once did I need to lift myself out of the seat. It's now absorbing bumps like Ohlins. FIVE STARS - Highly recommend!

Just wanted to tell you guys what a revelation the TracTive system is! It’s freakishly good- so good that I’m contemplating an M1000R or XR ‘cos TracTive make systems for those models too! Thank you for steering me in the right direction and supplying it. Weider L. 2023 R1250RS

The suspension is the bomb, exactly what I wanted. Sport touring, with an emphasis on sport when in the Dynamic mode and an emphasis on touring when in the Road mode. Thanks again for all your help and for making a terrific product. Fred R. 2016 R1200R

Ted, Now that I have a few rides on the new suspension, I am very pleased and glad I made the changes. The ride is now much smoother on all surfaces and the front tire stays on the pavement when the road gets bumpy in a corner, holding a line perfectly. There is a road in the hills that was chip sealed and the tar lines did not cover between them, leaving a corduroy look with ridges that wander along the road. The new suspension all but makes these invisible where the old shocks wobbled over these ridges and made the ride a little spooky. Some of my friends will not even ride here. The old rear shock would bounce me out of the seat on a bad pothole and the new one makes the ride much smoother. A bad bump starts with good feedback and melts away instead of getting stiffer and harsh. It is still set on one helmet and I have not bottomed out on the center stand like the old one at the same preload, I had to go to two helmets with the stock shock to keep the right side of the centerstand from touching down on a long corner with a bump in the middle . I was very deliberate for the first rides to analyzing the ride and even though I thought I was going slower, I ended up going faster with less effort and no drama. I have not tried the Dynamic setting yet as the Road setting is already firmer without being harsh. I want to get a trip soon with luggage to test the different preload settings A track day is needed to fully test the new forks and the Dynamic setting. Thanks again for your help. Regards, Rodney B (R1200RS)
