Note: Beginning with the 2022 model year, the stock piston rod protection guard that is attached to the stock shock is no longer transferable from the old shock to the new shock. Any damage to the TracTive shock piston rod caused by environmental debris—such as material thrown forward by the rear tire—that results in leaks is not covered under warranty. Therefore, it is highly recommended that a new shock guard be added when the shock is purchased for 2022 and newer models.

**PLEASE NOTE - IN ORDER FOR US TO INSTALL YOUR ORIGINAL PRELOAD MOTOR ONTO THIS NEW SHOCK, WE WILL NEED YOUR STOCK REAR SHOCK SHIPPED TO US. THE ESA SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE SET AT  "MIN" PRIOR TO REMOVAL FOR A SUCCESSFUL CONVERSION. PLEASE DO NOT TURN ENGINE OFF UNTIL DISPLAY CLEARS, THE PRELOAD PISTON WILL NEED SOME TIME TO PARK FULLY. WE ONLY NEED YOUR STOCK SHOCK FOR ONE DAY AS LONG AS YOU SETUP YOUR ORDER IN ADVANCE SO WE KNOW YOUR SHOCK IS COMING. PLEASE CONTACT US PRIOR  TO ORDERING IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS**

TracTive Dynamic (DDA) Plug & Play ESA shocks are specially designed for the original BMW ESA equipment. The shock itself is 100% new, only the spring preload motor is harvested from your original shock.

The engineers at TracTive invented ESA for BMW back in 2005, and they have a patent on their superior dynamic damping valve so you can count on their system functionality.

    TracTive ESA conversion benefits include:

  • Stainless steel reducer bushings (where the bolts pass through the mounting eyelets). Other companies use aluminum which is a softer material, and can contract or deform shape over time

  • The same reinforced seal head as used in the TracTive Adventure bike shocks. This seal head is very robust, provides long life, and rarely develops leaks

  • 46mm pistons with16mm induction hardened, chro-moly shafts.
  • If your original preload motor ever fails, a TracTive electronic preload motor can be installed which makes this shock withstand the test of time.

The Beemer shop is very thorough in setting up a custom suspension. I wanted to lower my bike, improve the spring rate for practical loads, and improve the shock response on severe wash boarded gravel roads in Platte County. I had just returned from the National Rally in Vermont which was a good time to weigh the camping gear, luggage, etc. on the bike. I also weighed myself with body armor, helmet, hydro pack, etc. The Beemer Shop has a detailed form which helps them determine the best set up for your riding. This includes the variance between unburdened daily riding and fully loaded rally trips. I removed the stock electric actuator and shipped it to the Beemer Shop who installed it on the new rear unit for a significant cost savings. The Beemer Shop worked very quickly. I removed the old system and installed the new front and rear assemblies in my shop. It is a good experience to dive into your bike and get an understanding how the machine you are riding is built. Take your time and enjoy build! One suggestion for the Beemer Shop may include photographs on where you will find the electrical connections. The rear connections are under the seat/brain/pan and may be buried in the dirt that accumulates under the seat. The front connection is zip tied to the frame behind the radiator fan on the right side of the bike. The new Tractive units were already set at the recommended clicks for the HS and LS valves (adjusters). I deliberately rode varied routes changing one click at a time. 25 mm (less than an inch) doesn't sound like much of a drop but it greatly helped me make solid contact with one foot and provides some relief at steeply cambered stops. The new springs rated for my weight, bike, gear, etc. do not over compress bottoming the bike out. Previously the Big Dog belly plate had saved the GS hitting a dry low water crossing at high speed (I know, rider error). Tractive is a good name for the suspension as the bike is now very connected to the surface. The first thing I noticed on the gravel washboards was improved grip. Previously the bike would skip and chop attempting to hook up. Now it glides at speed. It is a little surreal as the bike remains smooth and steady while you hear the suspension working below and your eyes are telling you the road surface is nasty. All this and now you can do it seated! Another revelation fatigue management. You don't realize how hard you were working previously to get the machine down the road. After training and practice on your riding the best investment is getting a custom suspension from the Beemer Shop! They will also interview you to help ensure that your system is tailored to your riding.
