**Tractive Plug & Play ESA shocks are specially designed for the original BMW ESA equipment. This shock is 100% complete by replacing the failure prone original electronic preload adjuster with a hand knob hydraulic preload adjuster.  

The engineers at Tractive invented ESA for BMW back in 2005, so you can count on their system functionality. They have stronger and higher quality ESA conversions, available in standard height as well as 25mm low.

Tractive ESA conversion benefits include:

  • Stainless steel reducer bushings (where the bolts pass through the mounting eyelets). Other companies use aluminum which is a softer material, and can contract or deform shape over time.  
  • The same reinforced seal head as used in the Touratech adventure bike shocks (Tractive provides the shocks for Touratech). This seal head is very robust, provides long life, and rarely leaks.
  • 16mm induction hardened, chro-moly shafts. 16mm shafts are stronger and flow more oil through the pistons compared to smaller shaft diameters used on some brands.
  • Tractive shocks come with new rebound motors (controls Comfort, Normal and Sport settings) located up inside the shock to protect it from the elements. This is beneficial since moisture often gets into the lower eyelet rendering the stock rebound motors inoperative.
  • Rear shocks feature a "PDS" valve - Position Dependent Damping System. Utilizing a secondary piston, this system creates a "pillow" effect designed to progressively increase damping to reduce harsh bottom outs. This feature is normally found only in the top of the line "Extreme" Touratech shocks.
  • This version is 100% complete, you do not need to send us your old shock. It replaces the failure prone electronic preload motor with a hand knob style hydraulic preload adjuster with 15mm of lift (the stock unit only has 10mm of lift). This means 50% more lift resulting in a wider load range.
  • Fully rebuildable.
The hydraulic preload knob (which is located under the seat) gives you a wider range of load carrying capability.  There are no faults on your display, and the Comfort, Normal, and Sport “on the fly” ESA settings continue to function as before with the stock shocks. The One Rider, One Rider with Luggage and Two Rider ESA settings will do nothing as that function is now controlled by the hydraulic preload adjuster. Tractive ESA Shocks 05-09 RT

I ordered a set of Tractive ESA shocks with the manual hydraulic adjustment. They arrived in less than a week and the next day they were on my bike. I took the bike out for a shake down ride and immediately noticed a huge difference. The bike was much more predictable. A few days later I left on a 9 day, 4900 mile trip to Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. The shock change has transformed my bike into something I never imagined it could be. Rolling down the road the bike road like a tourer. In the mountains, it performed like a sport bike. I had a permanent grin on my face. While replacing the shocks wasn’t cheaper it has improved the overall ride, joy and performance more than any other option I have purchase. My only disappointment is that I didn’t buy them sooner. The shocks are worth every penny I paid for them. I won’t bore you with all of the details on how the shocks improved the overall ride and performance because I won’t be telling you anything you don’t already know. The performance improvement has far exceeded my expectations. I could not be happier with my purchase!
